Bringing Biblically based truth from the heart

2017 One Way, God’s Way – Psalm 1:1-3

Blessed, prosperous to be envied are we when we follow God’s way.  Psalm 1 admonishes us to watch those we keep company with: don’t allow them to slow you down; do what would please God; and don’t speak against God and His children. In other words, watch your walk, ways and words.

Delight in the Law of the Lord. His word is a treasure chest full of wisdom, power, encouragement and promises.  The Bible says to taste and see that the Lord is good.  As we stand between 2 years, 2016 in our rear view (the past is in the past so get over it) and 2017 ahead full of promises, dreams and expectations, there is anticipation of what lies on the horizon.

I surveyed some of the books I read in 2016: God’s Promises; Power of a Praying….; Praying Successfully; and Let God Fight Your Battles. There is a common theme, God’s word gives me life and power.  This year open the treasure chest for yourself. What are you believing God for? By Faith Chonta ___ Who are you expecting God to bless (protect, provide, sustain)? I’m believing for ____ How much do you want God to show you? So much more!!

Be it resolved this year to: Trust God, Ask Him according to His word, Stay in the Scriptures & Watch God do marvelous things for you and those connected to you!

Be Sure Of Your Foundation

Placeholder Image1 Corinthians 3: 1 – 11

“And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?

Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man? I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building. According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”

Today let’s examine our foundation.  Some say they are Christians, but they show no fruit.  A Christian is a Christ follower but some aren’t following in thought, word or deed.  What then is the basis for what we say and do?

Jesus said, “Why call me Lord, Lord and do not do the things I say.”  “If you love me, keep my commandments.”  We must know the Word and be obedient.  I say it this way, what part of the “thou shalt not” do you not understand.  They are not to keep us from having fun but for our benefit to bring freedom and success without sorrow.  The principles, commands, statutes, and laws of God are for our good.

When the foundation is right it affects every aspect of our life; we treat others right; there is no envy, strife or division.  When our foundation is sure we have courtesy, compassion, honesty, justice and temperance.  We speak life to family and friends.  We edify one another.

When we build on the right foundation, our walk and talk will match. It can’t be a statement at the beginning of our conversation or a tag at the end of our prayer.  Our lips and our hips must line up.  Let this be the start of stability in our foundation.

With that in mind, there are some things you need to know:

  • God so loved the world that He gave
  • He so loved you that Christ died for you
  • You are fearfully and wonderfully made and that your soul should know right well
  • He wishes above all else that you prosper and be in good health as your soul (mind, will and emotions) prosper
  • Jesus died for you to have not only eternal life in heaven, but an abundant life here on earth
  • He said you can do all things thru Christ who strengthens you
  • His grace is more than sufficient for you and His strength is made perfect in your weakness
  • No weapon formed against you shall prosper and every tongue that rises up against you in judgment shall be condemned
  • You should be confident that He hears you when you pray and If He hears you, you have the petitions in which you ask
  • He is coming back sooner than you think.

Be Ready; Be Watchful; Be Sure of your foundation; and Be Careful what you build on it.

Are You Ready?

Placeholder ImageMatthew 25:1-13

“Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.”

The parable speaks of 10 virgins; 5 wise and 5 foolish.  The point of the parable is that preparation is key.

When we consider our current situation: the uprising in the middle east; the earthquakes; Tsunami’s; Nuclear concerns; and persecutions.  We have to recognize that tomorrow is not promised.

In Japan, one study shows that 70% of the people declare they have no religion.  Their belief is in self.  Only 1% of the population identifies themselves as Evangelical Christians.  According to the Bible 99% would be eternally lost.

The challenge today is to make sure, be very sure that you won’t be caught by surprise.  There is an urgency.  An urgency not just for the world but also for your family and friends.

Your inspirational word today is to remind you that:

  • You are too busy not to pray – We have 24/7 access. The Bible says to come boldly before His throne of grace;
  • You should spend time with the Lord – Seek His direction. Seek first the Kingdom of God and all things will be added;
  • You should know His love – He loves you with an everlasting love;
  • You ought to feel His presence – He promises never to leave you nor forsake you;
  • You should bask in His peace – He tells us to be anxious for nothing but promises to give us His peace that surpasses all understanding.
  • We should always enter into His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. Be thankful unto Him and bless His name. For the Lord is good and He is worthy to be praised.

Be Ready With The Word

Placeholder Image1 Peter 3:15-17

15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: 16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ. 17 For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.

This morning the inspirational word is a reminder – The Word of God is Powerful

Peter reminds us to sanctify or set apart God in our lives. Specifically we have to set apart God in our Heart {Greek– kardia}, the central or innermost vital part, the seat of our mind, will and emotions. It sounds good to think that God has a specific place of importance for us but what does that mean?  As we endeavor to sanctify God we have to remember we can’t separate Him from His Word.

The Word isn’t like anything else. It is quick and powerful and sharper than any two edged sword.  God’s word cuts… but as a master surgeon you can be cut quickly to remove what shouldn’t be and then stitched carefully so that you can heal and be better than before.

Perter also reminds us to be ready with an answer {Greekapologia}.  He says that we should make a defense, give an answer. Know what God has said in His word and know His character.  Be ready to stand like David (who is this uncircumcised Philistine) and the 3 Hebrew boys (our God is able).  Be ready with answers for others and yourself.

Keep in mind:

  • We live in a world that has forgotten God and traded Him for pleasure of self.
  • Laws don’t reflect Biblical principles and those upholding a Biblical worldview are ridiculed, rejected and silenced.
  • We are to be lights In this dark world as ambassadors for Christ.

If you know that you know the Word works… then work the Word.

If you’ve sanctified or set  apart in your mind to reverentially fear the Lord then trust in Him and Commit your ways to Him. He will direct your path, you will have wisdom and you will be established.

Be prepared to give an answer:

To those without hope – no job, high debt, relationships crumbling

Tell them where your hope lies – hope (expectation of something good)… My hope is built on the solid rock of Christ.  My anchor is Him and His work.  I know my redeemer lives… He has redeemed me- saved me from the wrath of God.  He walks with me & talks with me & tells me I am His own.  Tell them to look to Christ.

To those who are struggling – dealing with the ups & downs of life; going through

Tell them to go through. Whatever they (or you) are dealing with today will come to pass tomorrow.  It always seems darkest before day break.  We serve a God that not only will be there in the midnight hour but is able to also turn it around.  God’s plans are for good and not evil.  God’s design for your life is every bit as awe-inspiring as tomorrow’s sunset.  He is there.  Practice the presence of God.  Call on His name.  He answers.  He hears and if He hears, we have the petitions we have asked.  Praise Him in the middle of it.  He will give us the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.

To those who are at the peak / pinnacle– enjoying life , everything is good

Remind them that if it had not been for God’s grace… His divine influence on the heart of man that shows up in the life of the believer.  His grace keeps and sustains and propels us to do what we couldn’t without Him.  On the mountain we praise God so that others may see our good works but glorify Him.  Our goal or aim should be to bring God glory in everything that we do.

His promises are in His word.  Know it.  Trust it.  Live it.
